A two-tone plating technique gives the knit its depth and texture. At 75% fine merino wool, 20% possum fur and 5% mulberry silk it sits lighter than the Koru blend — layering weight through winter, and enough on its own for a cool morning.

Koru Knitwear is crafted in Warkworth, north of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, in a family-owned workroom that has been working natural fibre for more than 40 years. Every garment is cut, assembled and checked by hand before it leaves the room.

The signature blend is 50% fine merino wool, 40% possum fur and 10% mulberry silk, with colours drawn from the Pacific and from the greens and browns of native forest. Two further ranges come out of the same workroom — Brushtail by Koru, a lighter plated knit for year-round wear, and Trilogy by Koru, spun from offcuts of the Koru blend.

What is Koru knitwear?

Koru is a New Zealand natural-fibre knitwear maker known for possum merino, distinctive colour and textured knitwear. For more than 40 years, Koru has made garments in a family-owned workroom in Warkworth, north of Auckland, using fine merino wool, brushtail possum fur and mulberry silk.

What makes Koru possum merino different?

Koru's signature possum merino blend contains 40% possum fur, 50% fine merino wool and 10% mulberry silk. The high possum content provides substantial warmth while keeping the fabric lightweight, and Koru is also distinctive for its use of genuine possum fur trims on selected gloves, beanies and jackets.

What is Brushtail by Koru?

Brushtail by Koru is a lighter-weight line within the Koru family, knitted from 75% fine merino wool, 20% possum fur and 5% mulberry silk. It offers the softness and warmth associated with possum merino in lighter layers suited to everyday wear and changing temperatures.

What is Trilogy by Koru?

Trilogy by Koru is Koru's circular-design knitwear line. Offcuts from making the Koru range are collected, sorted and reprocessed into a new yarn made from 65% fine merino wool, 25% possum fur and 10% silk. The approach gives textile offcuts another life while creating a distinctive, lighter possum merino blend.

What are Koru fur trim garments made from?

Selected Koru garments and accessories feature genuine possum fur trim alongside Koru's possum merino knitwear. The fur trim is used as a tactile design detail on pieces including gloves, beanies and jackets. Koru is the only brand we stock that uses genuine possum fur trim.

Are Koru wraps and ponchos good for layering?

Yes. Koru wraps and ponchos are designed as generous outer layers that can be worn over knitwear, shirts or other clothing. Possum merino provides warmth without the weight of traditional heavy wool, making these pieces particularly useful for layering.
