Children

Children’s knitwear and baby blankets made in New Zealand using fine merino wool, with selected styles in possum merino and silk blends.

Designed for warmth without bulk, the range supports active everyday wear through lightweight insulation, breathability, and natural temperature regulation. Fine merino garments provide softness for sensitive skin, while possum merino styles offer additional warmth through a highly efficient natural fibre blend.

Possum fibre used in selected pieces is collected in New Zealand as part of conservation pest control and given a second life as knitwear.

Pure merino baby blankets come in bassinet and cot sizes, soft enough for a newborn and made to be kept long after.

Practical, durable, and comfortable, these pieces are made to be worn often and handed down.

Common questions

What is the children's range made from?

Most of the children's range is 100% merino wool, including the MyBlanket baby blankets and McDonald New Zealand's undyed newborn pieces. The Fair Isle Possum Merino Childrens Sweater and the Sheep and Kākāpō mittens are possum merino, knitted from 55% merino wool, 35% possum fur and 10% mulberry silk. Every piece is knitted in New Zealand.

Is possum merino suitable for children?

Possum merino suits children who need warmth without bulky layers. Possum fur is hollow, so each fibre traps air and holds warmth while the knit stays light. In the children's range it is used for the Fair Isle sweater and the novelty mittens, which are sized for ages 5 to 10 approximately. The baby and newborn pieces are 100% merino.

What size are the baby blankets?

MyBlanket's baby blankets come in two sizes: bassinet at 80cm x 90cm (31" x 35") and cot at 90cm x 110cm (35" x 43"). The bassinet size suits the early months and the pram, while the cot size gives more coverage as baby grows. McDonald New Zealand's Merino Baby Wrap measures 100cm x 90cm (39" x 35") and can be used to swaddle a newborn.

Is the children's range made in New Zealand?

Yes. Every piece is knitted in New Zealand. MyBlanket knits its baby blankets in Ōtautahi Christchurch, and McDonald New Zealand makes its children's and newborn pieces in Auckland. The undyed newborn range uses merino from a flock of black merino sheep at Ōtemātātā Station, so the colour is the fleece's own.
