Possum Merino
Every piece here is knitted in New Zealand from possum merino: fine merino wool blended with New Zealand brushtail possum fibre and usually a little silk. Some, like the socks, add nylon for wear. The collection runs from jumpers and cardigans to scarves, gloves, hats, socks and throws.
Possum fibre has a hollow core, so it traps heat without adding bulk. That makes possum merino warm for its weight and comfortable as temperatures change through the day.

Common questions
Is possum merino suitable for everyday wear?
Yes. Possum merino is soft and breathable, so it suits everyday wear rather than only the coldest days. The lighter blends from Brushtail by Koru, Trilogy and Woolline suit layering and milder weather, while Koru and McDonald New Zealand suit colder conditions.
Why is possum fur used in knitwear?
Possum fur comes from conservation pest control in New Zealand. Brushtail possums were introduced from Australia in the 1800s and damage native forest by eating canopy, berries and seeds, and by preying on the eggs and chicks of native birds. Using the fur in knitwear gives value to that control work.
